  • $300 Annual Travel Credit
  • 3x Points on Travel and Dining
  • Primary Car Rental Coverage
  • Global Entry / Pre-Check Reimbursement
  • Lounge Access
  • 1x Points on all Other Purchases
If you’re looking to accumulate Hyatt Points, we believe this should be one of the first cards in your wallet. Although this card earns Ultimate Rewards points, when you’re a Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder these points can easily be transferred to World of Hyatt on a 1:1 basis.
In addition to a generous sign-up bonus, the perks that come with this card are excellent for travel minded consumers. The card offers a very generous $300 annual travel credit which is extremely easy to use, as the definition of ‘travel’ is very broad… besides airfare, hotels, and car rentals, it also includes taxis, buses, trains, ferries, parking, tolls, and other travel related purchases.
The travel rebate is just the beginning as this card is stacked with premium travel benefits that make travelling more enjoyable and bring peace of mind. Lounge access, primary rental car insurance, trip delay/cancellation insurance, and global entry/tsa pre-check reimbursement are some of our favorites.
Earning rates on this card are also excellent and add up quickly, with 3x points on travel and dining, 5x points on flights booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards, 10x points on hotels and car rentals booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards, and 1x point on all other purchases.
Some people who don’t look below the surface immediately bypass this card based upon the $550 annual fee, but when considering the $300 annual travel credit it brings the actual out of pocket cost for this card to $250, which is a great value for all of the perks and point earning potential that it offers.
PRO TIP: Chase allows combining of points between another cardholder in the same household. With the sign-up bonus, travel rebates, and great earning rate, it can often make sense for two members of the same household each apply for and carry this card.

If the Chase Sapphire Reserve annual fee is too much to handle, the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is a good alternate option as it offers a more palatable $95 annual fee with some scaled down benefits, while still allowing points to be transferred to World of Hyatt on a 1:1 basis.
Although this card has a lower annual fee, it still includes some very nice travel perks and rebates. Besides primary car rental insurance, cardholders also receive a $50 annual credit on hotel stays booked through Chase’s Ultimate Rewards travel portal, and each anniversary year receive bonus points equal to 10% of total purchases from the previous year.
Earning rates on daily spend are strong, with 3x points on dining, 5x points on travel purchases made through the Ultimate Rewards travel portal, 2x points on other travel, and 1x point on all other purchases.
While Chase Sapphire Reserve remains our favorite card for accumulating Hyatt Points, the Chase Sapphire Preferred remains a solid choice for anyone those who won’t get the additional value from Reserve’s higher annual fee.
PRO TIP: Chase allows combining of points between another cardholder in the same household. With the sign-up bonus, travel rebates, and great earning rate, it can often make sense for two members of the same household each apply for and carry this card.

  • NO Annual Fee
  • 3x Points on Restaurants
  • 3x Points at Drug Stores
  • 1.5x Points on all Other Purchases
The No Annual Fee Chase Freedom card is a great everyday card to use for when your other cards don’t offer category bonus points.
This card makes it easy with 1.5x points on almost every purchase, although restaurants and drugstores are both bonus categories that earn 3x points for every dollar spent.
While other cards may be better for a particular purchase (such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve for travel purchases which earn 3x points in the travel category), this card works well for everyday general spending.
While this is the most frequently used card in my own wallet, it’s not the first card you should get since it requires one of the Chase Sapphire cards in order to transfer points to Hyatt (so get one of those first).
